Parasol Second Network Wide Event (NWE)

Faculty of Applied Informatics at Tomas Bata University (2/12/2024 – 5/12/2024 )

From December 2nd to 5th, the DN Parasol MSCA network gathered in Zlín, Czech Republic, for the second Network Wide Event (NWE). This meeting provided a dynamic platform for our Doctoral Researchers (DRs) to share their research progress and engage in meaningful discussions with peers, supervisors, and industry representatives.

The event began with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Ing. Stanislav Kovar followed by a general project update from Prof. Dr. ir. Anne Roc’h and Dr. Jeanne ter Bogt-van der Waal.

Each DR presented updates on their research projects, sparking valuable discussions and receiving constructive feedback from professors, supervisors, and associated partners.

The program also included training sessions and workshops, such as:
1️⃣ “How to Get Your Paper Published” by Prof. Dr. ir. Frank Leferink.
2️⃣ “Compromising Radiation and TEMPEST Standards” by Dr. Daniel Kula.
3️⃣ “Simulations Using CST Microwave Studio – Theory and Practice” by Ing. David Kuřátko.
4️⃣ “Presentation Skills at a Conference” by Dr. Petra Benyahya
5️⃣ “Virtual PCB Testing for EMC” by Prof. Dr. Ing. Zbynek Raida

A highlight of the event was a visit to the Faculty of Applied Informatics at Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU). During the visit, the DRs toured the EMC Lab, guided by Subramaniam Saravana Sankar, who also completed the examination for the first part of his PhD. Congratulations to him on this important milestone!

During this week, the DN Parasol team also enjoyed some fantastic social activities:

The first was a visit to the Zlín Christmas Market, where we sipped hot drinks and took a relaxing walk through the festive stalls—a perfect experience for this time of the year.

The second was a visit to the Rudolf Jelínek distillery, which has been producing fruit-based spirits since the 19th century. We toured the facilities, learned about the alcohol production process, and explored a museum showcasing the company’s rich history.

The third was a thrilling laser tag game. Working as a team in a fun and competitive setting was a great opportunity. Running, hiding, and chasing made for many laughs and unforgettable moments.
